One day it was open, the next dark.
That’s what Canby residents found over the weekend when the Quiznos Restaurant went out of business abruptly.
That’s a situation the corporate headquarters in Denver hopes to remedy — soon.

“We want to keep serving Canby,” said Ellen Kramer, executive vice president of communication at Quiznos corporate office. “There were a lot of people disappointed - customers and the owners themselves. When we have a lot of disappointed customers, we definitely put forth an effort toward getting that store reopened.”

Kramer declined to comment on the specifics behind the closure, citing company policy. She did say that the search for new owners of a Canby Quizno’s was unGot a News Tip?derway.

“We have a number of people in the market who search for new owners in a number of ways,” she said. “We have a team looking at owners in nearby markets who may come in, but we’re also looking at entrepreneurs who may want to get into the food industry. It’s feet on the street.”

Kramer didn’t have a timetable for getting the store reopened but said that “as soon as possible would be our goal. I think in these tough economic times, it’s not always easy to do.”

She described the Canby operation as a clean and friendly one “that served a lot of toasted subs. There’s no reason to think we shouldn’t bring it back - absolutely.”

The store officially closed on Aug. 15.

The Quiznos closed because the franchisor sucks. Q charges inflated prices for food and supplies, forces franchisees to charge artificially low prices with the threat of closure for those who ignore them, and provides no accountability for the ad money that is wasted on predatory coupons and late night cable tv. Food costs at Quiznos are 30%+. Add in the lease, labor, bank payment, electricity, and the other costs of running a business and owning a Quiznos is equivalent to being an indentured servant - no reward for the 80 hour weeks you'll work. Take my advice - tell Q to take a hike and re-open it as a Subway.

JC is wayyyyy off on this one. First of all, running a business is all about the end of the day ... and, at the end of the day, a Tuscan Turkey washed down with green tea is the cat's meow.
