The numbers aren’t in yet, but Heather Alexander has no doubt this year’s Clackamas County Fair and Rodeo was a good one.

Alexander, spokesman for the event, said that things got off to a good start Tuesday with youth attendance up significantly. It kept rolling from there.

“It was wonderful,” she said. “It was a great week and the weather could not have been more perfect, especially coming off last year’s heat wave. Attendance was great and I think the weather played a part in that.

Alexander did say that Wednesday’s senior attendance seemed to lag a bit, but that by Thursday the fair was seeing “a lot more seniors than we normally do. I think people just decided to wait a day and come ThursdaGot a News Tip?y.”

From there, the fair seemed to take on a life of its own. Key in that, said Alexander, was the decision to revamp some of the layout and change some of the flow of foot traffic. What that created were more areas for people to sit and talk, eat or listen and watch entertainment.
And entertainment was also a key.

“We made a concerted effort to bring in some new entertainment and we got a lot of comments about that,” said Alexander. “That seemed to have really been a positive thing. It just seemed that this year, people were taking more time to enjoy things, socialize and relax,” she added.
