It’s moving along.
The hunt for a new Canby police chief is pushing forward, according to Greg Prothman, president of Prothman Co., the city of Canby’s search firm.
The advertising and recruitment for the job should begin by the middle of next week.
“We just sent a draft of the profile (describing the city, job description, etc.) to the city,” said Prothman. “We anticipate getting those comments back and once we make the corrections and have everything ready to go, we’ll start advertising it. It should be on the street by next week.”
Canby’s open police chief position will be posted on the Prothman Web site. In addition to candidates looking for a job, Prothman will solicit potenti
al candidates countrywide.
“My expectation is that we’ll get 35 to 40 applicants,” said Prothman. “We’ll probably send out about 400 contacts to people we know have been looking or might be interested.”
The process, which began with a July 9 kickoff meeting, is on schedule, he said.
“It’s been great, I’ve really got no complaints at all,” Prothman said. “The citizen committee has been good to work with, too. I’ve enjoyed working with (city administrator) Mark Adcock and it’s pretty much moving forward as I expected.”
While Prothman and the citizen committee will be reviewing applications and potential candidates beginning the first week of September, the first public work session on the candidates will be the week of Sept. 21.
Interviews are planned for the weeks of Sept. 28 and Oct. 5, with a second work session slated for Oct. 12. Final interviews are scheduled for the week of Oct. 26.
