The winds of change continue to blow through Canby City Hall as City Councilor Wayne Oliver submitted his resignation today (Sept. 8).

The Council is already in the process of sorting through nine candidates for the seat vacated by Tony Helbling last month. Now, finding a replacement for Oliver will be thrown into the mix as well.

It’s just the latest domino to the fall for the city in terms of personnel shakeups. The city has lost a police chief (Greg Kroeplin), city administrator (Mark Adcock) and now a pair of councilors (Helbling and Oliver) in a fairly short span. The search for a new police chief if currently underway.

In Oliver’s resignation letter, obtained by the Herald through a public Got a News Tip?records request, he cites a waning of “class and compassion” on the city council and says “My faith and trust has been compromised by recent decisions by the council and mayor.”

If your so concerned about faith and trust, then why weren't you at the council meeting when the decision was made. All council members get a packet day of or days before the meeting and know what it is going to be discussed at the meeting. Of course everybody knew you and Adcock were buddies, and hung out together.

Wayne Olivers Faith and trust in the city council is waning because his buddy has been removed from their positions (Mark Adcock) city admin (Greg Kroeplin Police chief.) The good ole boy club is dismantled. His resigination is not unexpected, all his buddies are gone. Thank you Wayne for finally doing the right thing so canby can move on.

Wayne Oliver represents and talks to a large portion of the community, so for the loss of that representation I am sad about this. I didn't often agree with Mr. Oliver, but anytime differing voices are removed from a body like the council, I think we all lose something.

I think a wide ranging of opinion is important to the meeting of any group of minds, especially one that influences public policy, but I can see that unless opinions are streamlined, this online forum will refuse to see an individuals value. A dissenting voice is integral to any and all policy conversations and you will find Oliver's contribution to be missed once he is gone. Much respect for the man for giving his time and energy to an unpaid position.
