Another step forward for Canby’s search for a new police chief.
Greg Prothman, president of Prothman Co., the city’s search firm, has forwarded 18 potential candidates to the city, along with 13 other “maybes” they can consider from an applicant pool of 63 resumes.

“I sent the potential candidates to the city along with the 13 others just to make sure we don’t miss any rising stars,” said Prothman. “It’s a good field, a good mix of chiefs, deputy chiefs and rising stars.”

Prothman plans to be in Canby Thursday to meet with the police chief advisory committee and interim city administrator Amanda Klock, where they’ll narrow the group down to about 12 semifinalists.
From there, Prothman said he Got a News Tip?would start doing in-person and video conference interviews.

“I’ll use the established position profile as my guide,” he said. “I’ll be looking for basic competency, overall qualifications and just see what kind of fit they will be for the city of Canby.”

Prothman complimented the advisory group, saying that working with them has been very productive.

“They’ve given me good, clear guidance and I’m looking forward to meeting with them next Thursday,” said

Prothman, who added that once the field is narrowed to the semifinalists, it will take a couple weeks to work through the interviews.
At that point, he hopes make a recommendation to the advisory committee regarding the top four to six candidates.
