Steve R. Trietsch Sr.
Steve Roger Trietsch Sr., 78, of Barlow, died Jan. 26, 2010, at home.
He was born May 16, 1931, in Wyandot, Mich., to George and Ilo Trietesch.
He moved from Ohio to Oregon his freshman year of high school, attending school in Hubbard where he played football and basketball. During the Korean War, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was a boxer while stationed in Germany in 1951.
On Oct. 17, 1953, he married Irma Dunn. Through the years he worked as a prison guard, machinist. real estate agent, operated a paint shop for cars and trucks and was a part owner of a Woodburn skating rink. He also played professional rhythm and blues guitar in three different bands. He retired at age 65 as an electrical engineer at Intel in Hillsboro.
He served as mayor, city councilor and water commissioner for the city of Barlow and served on the Canby Police Reserves from 1963-64.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, working with a scroll saw, playing rhythm guitar backup when his children sang as a trio and performing with a 25-piece band in the Foursquare Church in Woodburn.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Debra Stelts of Oregon City and Karen Skiles of Eureka, Calif.; son, Steve R. Jr. of Barlow; brothers, George of California and Bob of Corbett, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service and potluck will be held Saturday, Feb. 6, from noon to 3:30 pm at the Canby Adult Center.
