The ruined remains of a truck's front end offers testament to the Wednesday morning accident on Arndt Road that involved four cars and sent two people to the hospital.
Two Canby drivers were hurt in a four-vehicle crash Wednesday morning on Northeast Arndt Road just east of Airport Road NE.
Michael F. Lee, 49, was treated at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland. Clackamas County Sheriff’s deputies later cited him on charges of reckless driving and driving while suspended.
The second driver, Hector M. Estrada-Vargas, 45, was treated at Legacy Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin.
Officers said the mishap occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when Lee’s eastbound 2000 red Chevrolet S-10 pickup unlawfully passed another vehicle on the right. Lee lost control of his truck, which careened into the opposite lane, striking three westbound vehicles.
The first oncoming vehicle, a purple 1996 Plymouth Voyager Van received a glancing blow on the driver’s door. The van driver was uninjured.
Lee’s truck then struck a blue 1958 Ford F-150 pickup driven by Estrada-Vargas, who received minor injuries.
Lee’s truck then struck a red 1997 Ford F-150 pickup. The driver of the red pickup was not injured.
Aurora Fire District firefighters had to use a winch to separate Lee’s truck from the side of the red Ford pickup. They then had to remove the damaged driver’s side door to extricate him from his vehicle.
The investigation shut down Arndt Road traffic both ways for about an hour during the busy morning commute.
