While the battle lines were drawn clearly between supporters and detractors of Measures 66 and 67, Wednesday morning’s unofficial results, released by the Oregon Elections Division, indicated there was a distinct regional flavor to the voting.

Despite losing in 25 of Oregon’s 36 counties, both measures passed overall. Measure 66, which raises taxes on households with taxable income of more than $250,000, was passed by a 669,214 to 571,669 statewide count, according to Wednesday’s numbers. Measure 67, which sets higher minimum taxes on corporations and increases the tax rate on upper-level profits, was passed by a 648,203 to 574,087 verdict.

In Clackamas County, Measure 66 was defeated with 67,994 no votes to Got a News Tip?66,329 yes votes. Measure 67 was also defeated in the county by 2,600 votes – 68,435 to 65,825.

Clackamas County joined 24 other counties in rejecting both ballot measures, part of a voting block running through Oregon’s Willamette Valley and all the state’s eastern and southern counties.

Marion County was the lone Willamette Valley county to pass both measures. The 11 yes counties were all located in the northwest corner of the state.

The measures were passed in Oregon’s most populated counties – Washington and Multnomah – resoundingly, which was enough to overcome the 25-11 disadvantage in counties won statewide.
