The Canby High School engineering and design class toured Johnson Controls in Canby on last Wednesday. Johnson Controls is a global leader and the world's largest manufacturer of lead-acid automotive batteries.

Quality Control Manager Christopher Nichols and other employees served as tour guides for the 28 CHS students and their teacher, Jay Harman.

Topics covered in Harman's class are engineering and designing products, manufacturing systems, stored energy, and environmental issues.

"The tour was great for our engineering and design students and students from our Recycling Club, because it provided them with an opportunity to see manufacturing processes in the real world," Harman said. "SeverGot a News Tip?al students thought that the plant's use of robotics was the most interesting.

“The other thing students found impressive was the company's emphasis on "Green Technology" such as recycling lead-form old batteries, and also its emphasis on safety,” he said.
