Canby, Ore. --
Dr William House (top, left) begins clinical trials in 1973 on the single-channel cochlear implant and initiates diagnostic, evaluative and training procedures.
He has been called the “Father of Cochlear Implants,” and for good reason. Dr. William House developed and implanted the first cochlear implant in 1961, providing deaf patients with the chance to hear—patients whose condition could not be improved by hearing aids or any other means.
