Canby senior Kris Koskela went seven innings, allowing two runs with nine strikeouts in Tuesday's 7-2 win over David Douglas in the Class 6A play-in round.
It was by no means a game the Canby baseball team expected to walk into and automatically win.
While David Douglas had lost 15 games in a row, had not won since April 5 and was winless during its league season, the Cougars found themselves behind the ball early.
